The voices that appear here will vary from device-to-device, especially between iOS and Android. For this reason, you may lose access to certain system voices if you switch to a different phone or tablet. This is outside of our control and dependent on your device manufacturer.

  1. Tap any voice to hear a sample. This will also select the voice and highlight it in blue.

  2. To set the selected voice as the voice you use in Spoken, tap the “Use Selected Voice” button at the bottom of the page. Exit the page without tapping the “Use Selected Voice” button if you decide you want to keep your Spoken voice.

How to Get More Voices on iPhone or iPad

Apple offers several built-in voices, but many of them are outdated and low-quality. You can access higher-quality system voices on iOS by downloading them from the Settings app. Just navigate to Accessibility > Live Speech > Add Preferred Voice.

Once in the preferred voice popup menu, select your language (Spoken is currently only available in English) and you’ll be taken to a list of all the voices available for iOS. Any voice with a cloud icon to the right can be downloaded for use in Spoken. You can sample voices by pressing the play button or download them by tapping the cloud icon.

How to Get More Voices on Samsung Devices

By default, some Samsung users may be limited in their selection. To see more system voice options, open the settings app on your device and navigate to Accessibility > Text-to-Speech Output > Preferred Engine. Here, switch the text-to-speech engine to Google Speech Recognition & Synthesis. This will allow you to see the voices available on most other Android devices in Spoken.
